About

Dr. Amina Hassan researches Islamic economics, cooperative finance, and the institutional history of Muslim communities across Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking markets. Her fieldwork spans Brazil, Argentina, and Colombia, with a particular focus on how Sharia-compliant instruments are adapted within existing cooperative banking frameworks.

She holds a PhD from the Universidade de São Paulo and has published extensively on the Malê revolt's legacy in Atlantic Muslim memory, Syrian-Lebanese migration patterns, and ethical finance movements in the Southern Cone. Her work appears in both peer-reviewed journals and community-facing publications on this platform.
